Okey is an old and fun game played with tiles. Many people in Turkey love it and play it, regardless of age, usually in cafes. This game is much like Rummy or Rummikub because it uses the same type of tiles and boards, but the rules differ.

Four people can play Okey at once. It uses a total of 106 tiles. Of these, 104 tiles have numbers from 1 to 13 and come in four colours. During the game, each player has 14 tiles. Players take turns picking up a new tile and getting rid of one. The goal is to be the first to use all 14 tiles to create sets and runs. In each game, special tiles called "jokers" are picked. These tiles can replace any missing tile in a set or run. The last two tiles in the set are "false jokers." They have stars on them and can be a bit tricky. They're not jokers but act like regular numbered tiles.

THROW THE TILE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE TABLE

If you try to win by throwing a tile in the middle of the table and you've made a mistake in your sets or runs, those groups will turn red. It will flip over if you touch and hold a tile in one spot for 3 seconds. This trick is usually used to keep track of the joker tiles in the game.
